Page of Cups: The Wild Animal Spread
Above: Page of Cups from the Waite-Smith Tarot.
It’s hard not to love the Waite-Smith Page of Cups. In the background, the waves of the sea roll. The young figure in the card wears watery blue; they stand confidently, curiously, as the bizarre sight of a fish popping out of their cup makes an appearance. The figure smiles at this bizarre event as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Ordinarily, we might work symbolically with this fish. What is popping up from the unconscious mind at the moment? What is emerging from the watery depths of consciousness?
But, this blog is different, as you may have gathered. Nature-connection often requires simplicity and a little bit of playfulness. And so, in the spirit of this strange, fishy appearance, we are going to get playful this week. Let’s see which animals pop up from the watery depths of your imagination, shall we?
Please take out your cards. Shuffle and spread them out in whatever way feels right for you, and then choose six cards to represent your relationship with animals, following the spread positions outlined below.
1. A special encounter that I once had with a wild animal.
2. My relationship with wild animals as a child
3. My relationship with wild animals now.
4. How can I build a strong and respectful relationship with wild animals in the future?

5. A species of wild animal that is (or will become) special to me. (This card indicates its major traits.)
6. A message from a wild spirit animal.
Delve into your imagination, and enjoy! (And please post in the comments if you do the spread….)
