Six of Wands: The Six-Part Story Spread

Six wands for six moments of fiery creativity with Nature!

The Six Part Story Method (6PSM) is a therapeutic tool, created by Mooli Lahad. It is used in creative therapies such as Drama Therapy to help a client write their own symbolic healing story which helps them to move forward in life. I have discovered that it works incredibly well as a Tarot spread and often use it with clients, so let’s give it go!

Firstly, please think of an area of your life that you would like to explore (preferably in relation to your Nature-connection, although you can explore any theme that you like).

With the help of six cards, you are going to create your own fairy tale that will act as an insightful metaphor for your life.

Now, shuffle your cards and choose five of them (face down) in whatever way you like.

Lay the cards out before you in a straight line (horizontal or vertical, your choice), and turn them over one by one.

Here is what each card represents:

So, why the Six of Wands/Batons for the Six Part Story Spread? I’m just keeping it simple … the Wands are the suit of creativity, and we are being creative with the number Six. The above card is from the Metanoia Marseille.

Card 1: Who is the main character in your tale?

Card 2: What does this character want?

Card 3: What are the character’s resources?

Card 4: What obstacles are in the way?

Card 5: What interesting event happens along the way?

For the above five cards, it is important that you write down the very first thing that springs to mind as soon as you turn the cards over. This is an exercise that puts you in touch with your unconscious mind, in writing a tale from the depths. Overthinking a card might make for a pretty story, but it won’t necessarily be a healing one.

Now for the final card. How would you like your healing story to end? Tarot author Theresa Reed (AKA The Tarot Lady) sums up a typical tarot reading like this: ‘The cards tell a story, but you write the ending’. This final step takes this wisdom literally. Card 6 is a decision for you to make cognitively. Choose a card face-up: whichever card you like. End the story in whatever way makes you happy. This is your final card, completing the Six Part Story Method Spread.

How can this story inspire your life?
