Episode 16: Rocks, Crystals, and Solidity

In episode 16 of the Nature Therapy Online podcast, I record an ecotherapy podcast about rocks and crystals whilst standing under an umbrella in my rainy garden. Click on the black player above to listen.

As I watch the sheep and listen to the sound of crows and raindrops, I ponder on the power and beauty of rocks and crystals.

Finding, pondering on, and meditating with rocks is a powerful act. Focusing on such solid, strong earth-y matter can really ground us back into the world around us, and help us to settle our busy minds.

In this episode, I invite you to go outside find a rock, pebble or stone that you are drawn to. Preferably, this will be something that feels good to hold in your hand, whether that’s because it has a smooth feel, or feels interesting/satisfying to stroke.

In the picture above, I’m holding a colourful pebble that I found on a beach on the Isle of Barra, Scotland, which I often sit and relax with. Once you have found your pebble, simply sit with it for several minutes at a time, inspecting it, appreciating its solidity, and perhaps contemplating its journey to you. Close your eyes, and focus only on the stone; its temperature, smoothness/hardness. Imagine for a few moments that it is a part of you. How does it feel to be so solid? How do you feel connecting with nature’s toughest materials? Notice how your temperature slowly blends with that of the stone; how you merge. Leave it somewhere visible at home, and pick it up at times when your mind is feeling busy, and you need to feel more grounded.

I hope you enjoy this invitation and this week’s ecotherapy podcast folks! As always, please do get in touch and let me know your thoughts on this episode, as well as subscribing and leaving a review wherever you listen to your podcasts; it would be so much appreciated!

Green smiles,

Stephen x
