Episode 6 - The Nature Twin (A Scottish Mythology Story)

In episode 6 of the Nature Therapy Online podcast, I share a story/tale with you, The Nature Twin, which is based on Scottish mythology. Click on the black player above to listen.

I invite you to tune into nature with your imaginations.

Imagination, mythology, fairy tales, stories and nature are deeply intertwined with each other. Sometimes we lose sight of the power of stories in our adult lives, perhaps feeling that it’s childish to pay attention to them. However, when we watch a film, read fiction or even listen to the news, we are paying attention to stories. They are a part of what makes us human.

Mythology blends the truth with fiction. So many myths grow out of nature experiences, and getting in touch with our imaginations when we are outdoors, as well as reading nature stories and tales based on myths and legends of the world, we connect with nature in a different and exciting way.

Here is a little exercise that you can try:

Conjuring Stories. Go for a walk and let your surroundings inspire you to make up a story. Create a character/mythological creature/animal who you would like to be friends with. What are they doing out here? You don’t have to write your story down (although you can if you want), and it doesn’t have to be fully formed. It can be as simple as, ‘that bridge is where an angry fairy lives’. What might your story represent about you? How might it reflect how you see your surroundings?

I hope you enjoy this week’s show folks!
